Chronology
The Migration Division collection holds the records of Puerto Ricans who submitted applications for Identification Cards from August 20, 1930 to December 30, 1959. If your friends or relatives migrated from Puerto Rico to New York during that time period, their application may form part of this collection.

NOTE:
If you try various name combinations and the name does not appear in our database, the person you are searching for did not apply for an ID card from 1930-1959. Applying for an ID card was voluntary. Individuals usually applied if they needed the card as proof of citizenship to work, travel or receive social services. The program also continued until 1993 although this collection does not contains records after 1959.
