Oral History

Task
--> Research your community's history through interviews of long time residents, field visits of places and library search.

--> Create a Powerpoint presentation of 7 to 10 slides that:

1. Introduces and identifies your neighborhood on a Bronx map
2. Presents 3 to 5 pictures of interesting/important places (e.g. church, store, historic building, park, school, etc.)
3. Describes how your neighborhood has changed in the last several decades using the information from your interviews.

Directions
1. Brainstorm about people and places in your community.

2. Select and photograph 3 to 5 places in your community. Write two or three sentences explaining your choices (Why are these places important in your community?) If necessary, go to your local library or the Bronx Historical Society.

3. Generate a list of 7 to 10 questions that you will use to interview at least 3 long time residents of your community. The focus of your interview is the changes that your neighborhood has undergone.

4. Create a Powerpoint presentation using the photographs and the information from your interviews.

Digital camera(s), Computer lab equipped with scanner, Powerpoint software

A(90-100)

Bronx map is clear and accurate.

All the pictures are labeled and clear.

The text is written in clear, correct and complete sentences.

The presentation is well organized.

B(80-89)

The map is clear but is inaccurate.

Some pictures are not clear.

The text has a few grammatical errors.

The presentation is somewhat organized.

C(65-79)

The map is clear but totally inaccurate·

Many pictures are out of focus and mislabeled.

The text has many errors (grammar & spelling)·

The presentation is poorly organized.
