Henrietta Drudge

I had a few questions for Henrietta Drudge, the housekeeper:

JN: Hello there, Ms. Drudge, I'm sorry to bother you, but I do need to ask you a few questions.

HD: Yes, yes, of course.

JN: What were you doing this morning when you discovered Mr. Conwell's body, Ms. Drudge?

HD: Making Mr. Conwell's breakfast rolls, or I was about to...

JN: Why would you be baking at such an ungodly hour, Ms. Drudge?

HD: Mr. Conwell liked his rolls made early. He expected them to be ready when he woke up in the morning.

JN: So every morning you wake up at 3:00 to make Mr. Conwell's rolls?

HD: Yes, I do.

JN: Why would you keep working for Mr. Conwell when he made such harsh demands?

HD: I suppose now that he's gone I have nothing to fear...

JN: Yes, that's right, Ms. Drudge, nothing to fear at all. What is it?

HD: Well...many, many years ago, when I first started working for Mr. Conwell, he thought he caught me stealing his mother's jewelry from an upstairs drawer...I was just cleaning it, but oh heavens, he thought I was pilfering it and he threatened that if I ever left my job he would turn me in and get me sent to prisonl for the rest of my life. Mr. Conwell was a powerful man and I was frightened...

JN: I see, I see. All right, then, where were you last night, from evening to early morning, Ms. Drudge?

HD: I was sleeping in the pool house, and then I came in to make Mr. Conwell's rolls, and I discovered the body.

JN: That will be all for now. Stick around, cupcake, we may be chatting again real soon.
