The Bronx River Project In the Bronx River we learned many things, during my experience at the Bronx River we learned about the salinity, the dissolved oxygen, and many different places where we can research. Last week (3/23/05) we went to the end of Sound View Park and went to test water samples. Here are some results that students recorded at the Bronx River Dissolved Oxygen The dissolved oxygen was 9 ppt (Parts per thousand) on March 23 rd 2005. Dissolved oxygen reading by Anthony Sanchez In order for marine life to be supported, that has to be a dissolved oxygen reading of 6 to 7 ppt – parts per thousand. On this day, March 23 rd, 2005, the dissolved oxygen was 9ppt; the reading was high because the temperature of the water was low, 6 0C, and the water was flowing rapidly. The following data was collected by:Jessica Lacen, Sergimar Henriquez, Francisca Hernandez, Miguel Flores, Florence Leon Two of the most important test performed at the Bronx River is that of salinity and temperature. Salinity tells us a lot, such as the type of runoff the river gets from the surrounding land and also how much salt is in the water. Temperature works with dissolved oxygen because if the water is too warm oxygen will evaporate and animals could not live in the river. These are our readings for temperature and salinity on the 23 rd of March.
