Mission
I
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to research and develop
a computer-controlled bionic cat.
Gadgets
To help you along your way, we've gathered some TOP-SECRET intelligence.
You will be equipped with:
- Lego Dacta Control Lab sets or Lego Mindstorms or the Robotics Invention
System
- Small motors as required by the design teams
- Computers for Internet research, journal entries, and communication
- One copy of Boing Boing the Cat Design Log for each student.
- (These have been created in landscape orientation for printing;
copy the four pages double sided, and fold the two pages down the
middle so the title in on the front. Use a long-throated stapler
to put two staples along the fold.)
Debriefing
- Journal Entries - As your team is working through
the process, record at least four times each week in a robot journal
about your discoveries, sentiments and feelings, mistakes and triumphs.
- Team Formation- Outline on the back
cover of the Design Log the organizational system that your group develops.
Each group must have a coordinator, a design team, and a project team,
who work together to build the robot to their satisfaction.
- Team evaluations
- Final Presentation
Mission Report
Prepare a presentation for the visiting guest scientist who will be
available at the end of the four weeks. This should be a Powerpoint
presentation, and should include a line drawing or sketch of your final
design, from multiple perspectives. A list of materials used should
be included.
