Actual Project/Task
Students will do the following tasks during this unit:
Reflection & Discussion Activities: Reflection and discussion activities of the unit are carried out in the classroom in Day 6 and Day 7. Materials and Tools: Wright Invention Activity Handout, Online Student Booklet; Multimedia/ Computer Lab Tools.
DAY 6
Open Ended Questions and Discussions on "History of Flight": Teachers facilitates whole group participation in the discussion through question and examples. Students work together to create a knowledge base for the subject by applying their critical thinking and decision-making skills.
"Wright" Invention Activity: Students participate in the activity. The purpose of the activity is to provide students with an activity'in which they use their cumulative understanding through the unit.
Discussions on "Principles of Flight":
Open Ended Questions and Teacher assists whole group discussion through question and examples. Students work together to create a knowledge base for the subject by applying their critical thinking and decision-making skills.
Open Ended Questions and Discussions on "Careers in Flight": Teachers supports whole group discussion through question and examples. Students work together to create a knowledge base for the subject by applying their critical thinking and decision-making skills.
DAY 7
Whole Group Discussion: "Future of Flight": Teacher encourages students to speculate about the future of flight and to imagine and describe a future by drawing on their discussions.
Design Activities: Design activities of the unit are performed in the multimedia/ computer lab throughout Day 6, Day 7, Day 8, and Day 9. Materials and Tools: "Doctor D's Lab Simulations" web link, Media Links, Foam Airplane Making Activity Handout, Edible Aircraft Activity Handout; Multimedia/ Computer Lab Tools.
DAY 6
Study Group Work: "Hypermedia Design-Content Planning": Students work in their study groups to plan their hypermedia presentation content.
DAY 7
Doctor D's Lab Simulations: "Ace Air Design Activity”: Student perform Ace Air Design activity as individuals. The purpose of this activity is to provide children with a design challenge to solve design problems by using their knowledge on the principles of flight.
Study Group Work: "Hypermedia Design-Content Planning": Students continue to work in their study groups to plan their hypermedia presentation content.
Whole Group Discussion: "Hypermedia Design-Content Planning": Teacher facilitates students' content planning discussions by asking guiding questions and providing examples.
DAY 8
Whole Group Instruction: "HyperStudio 4-Overview”: Teacher outlines the HyperStudio 4 software by showing some samples created with the HyperStudio 4 software.
Study Group Work: "Media Selection": Student work with their study groups to search and decide appropriate media for their design.
Foam Airplane Making Act: Students participate in foam airplane making activity in their study groups.
The purpose of the activity is to provide students with an opportunity to make a smaller version of Wright Brother's glider design and to differentiate this design from the today's aircraft designs.
Study Group Work: "Hypermedia Design-Organization": Students work in their study groups to organize their hypermedia presentation content.
DAY 9
Study Group Work: "Hypermedia Design": Students work in their study groups to design their hypermedia presentations.
Edible Aircraft Activity: Students build edible aircrafts from some food. The purposes of this activity are to learn and built the parts of an airplane by using the knowledge that they build throughout the unit.
Study Group Work: "Hypermedia Design": Students continue to work in their study groups to design their hypermedia presentations.
Concluding Activities: Concluding activities of the unit will be presented in the multimedia/ computer lab in Day 10.
Materials and Tools: K-W-L Charts and Handouts, Hypermedia Presentation Evaluation Rubrics; Multimedia/ Computer Lab Tools.
DAY 10
Study Group 1-2: "Hypermedia Presentations": Students present their hypermedia presentations as groups.
Study Group 3-4: "Hypermedia Presentations": Students continue to present their hypermedia presentations as groups.
Whole Group Discussion: "Hypermedia Presentation Evaluations": Students evaluate their hypermedia presentations. The hypermedia presentations will be used as electronic portfolio to assess summative learning.
K-W-L Chart: Teacher presents K-W-L chart and writes what students have learned according to students' reflections. Teacher also asks student to fill out their K-W-L handouts' last section according to their beliefs about their learning.
Overall Discussion: Teachers summarizes the unit and the project and answers the questions if there is any.
