Guide and Directions for the Statistician (You may want to print this page)

The following steps are suggested:

Based on the task required of the statistician, determine the graphics that you will use. You can use tables, pie charts, bar graphs, etc.

2. Remember that graphics are visual ways to present information. Select the graphics which best shows the information you are working with - keep your focus.

3. Make sure that you label all parts of your graphics. For example, if you use a table you must have a main title and names of the columns and rows.

4. Identify the source(s) of the information in each graphic used.

5. Write a written portion interpreting the information in your graphics.

6. Remember your graphics should show the following:

Total population and immigrant population (legal/illegal) in the nation, your state and your city/county.
Basic characteristics of the population ( age, race, income, education).
A comparison of at least TWO dates of the same information
