(You may want to print this page.)

After reviewing the online and offline resources, you will compose a 2 to 3 page
summary of US Immigration history and laws. The narrative is to consist of 4 sections.

Section 1:
Compares and contrasts the US immigration policy from 1607 to the late 1800's (old    immigration) and the Immigration policy beginning in the late 1800's to the 1920's (new immigration).

Section 2:
Describes the challenges that immigrants have faced (e.g. nativism). Discusses how immigrants have responded to these challenges (e.g. melting pot or salad bowl).

Section 3:
Discusses the current immigration trends beginning in the 1960's. Compares this immigration phase with earlier waves.

Section 4:
Identifies and describes major Immigration laws in US history. These include the Chinese Exclusion Act, the 1924, 1965 and 1996 Immigration Laws. Special focus must be made of the 1996 Immigration Law.
