NETs.Work
builds the capacity of participating college faculty
to develop technology skills, integrate technology
with their course work, transform pre-service education,
and
to develop a cadre of practioners who are able to use
technology to enhance student comprehension and success.
NETs.Work
is funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Preparing
Tomorrow's Teachers for Technology (PT3) program.
NETs.Work's partners include 70 faculty from nine campuses
of the City University of New York, Ohio State University,
Kingsbridge Academy, Community School District #10, NYC
Board of Education, and Jane Addams Vocational High School.
Professionals from the Advanced Educational Systems at
the New York University School of Medicine, under the
leadership of Dr. Martin Nachbar, provide technical training,
support, state-of-the-art facilities, and powerful models
of learning and technology use.
Faculty
are supported in the development of their projects
with workshops, small-group training, telephone consultation,
one-on-one mentoring, and collaborative peer support.
Faculty meet for cross-campus training. project development,
and peer feedback. Mini-grants are awarded to support
faculty projects, scholarly writing and presentations,
and for catalyst activities that will spread the projects
and lessons learned.
Achievements include:
The
incorporation of online projects into course offerings
of almost all participating faculty
Self-support
technical systems that have developed at several sites
The
creation of full-time technology positions and student/faculty support squads
at many schools
Faculty's
increasingly sophisticated technology and instructional computing skills
Increased
interaction with IT staff members
The
community approach that has developed throughout the program for troubleshooting
and collaboration
